New Scientist reports that people are now hypothesizing that the speed of light may have changed as recently as 2 billion years ago. Certainly long before I was born, but considering that the age of the universe is postulated to be about 10 - 15 billion years, not that long ago, all things considered.
I am continually reminded that the view of the Universe that science gives us is so much more fantasic and mysterious than anything we can make up with our eyes closed.
